Sherwood, AR man arrested for vehicle theft, fleeing & numerous other charges

James Caple

Heather Collier

On April 13th, 2013, Marion County Deputies responded to assist the Bull Shoals Police Department with a vehicle that failed to stop for a Bull Shoals Police Officer.  The driver, James Caple, age 31, of Sherwood, Arkansas, had warrants out of the Mountain Home Police Department and the Arkansas Board of Parole.  Once in the county, Marion County Deputies joined and took lead of the pursuit.  Caple was observed driving recklessly from officers at speeds near 70 miles per hour.  Caple exited the vehicle in the Fairview area of Highway 178 and then fled then on foot in to the woods.  At that time a passenger in Caple’s vehicle, Heather Collier, age 29, of Alexander, Arkansas, was arrested for drinking on the highway. A search for Caple was concluded at approximately 2:00 AM, with Caple not being located.

On April 14th, 2013, at approximately 4:45 AM, deputies responded back to the area where Caple was last seen, on a suspicious persons call.  Deputies then observed Caple driving a vehicle, which he had stolen from a local resident.  Deputies then attempted to stop Caple, as he continued to evade and flee, driving at a high rates of speed in a reckless manner. Caple continued to flee from officers through Flippin, Yellville, and Summit, then traveling North towards Lead Hill in Boone County. Once in Boone County, Caple traveled toward Bergman, where the Boone County Sheriff’s Department deployed “spike strips”, where Caple was finally stopped and taken in to custody without incident.

Caple was charged with Fleeing, Criminal Trespass, Breaking or Entering, Theft of a vehicle, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Reckless Driving, Careless and Prohibited Driving, Driving on a Suspended DL, No Insurance, Running a Stop Sign, and Driving Left of Center.  Caple’s is currently being held on a parole violation with no bond, awaiting his first appearance before the Marion County Circuit Court. Assisting were Bull Shoals PD, Flippin PD, Lead Hill PD, Boone County Sheriff’s Department and Arkansas Game and Fish.
