On Sunday, November 17th, 2013 at approximately 7:31 PM, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a Zack Rogers (age 39), of northern Marion County. Zack reported a truck had stopped in front of his residence for a short time and made a commotion. Zack stated he went out to investigate what was going on and found a person lying in the ditch, bleeding and unresponsive. Zack discovered the person lying in the ditch to be his brother; Jody Rogers (age 42), also of northern Marion County. Jody was pronounced dead at the scene, due to an apparent gunshot wound.
A short time later, information was received of a possible suspect driving the vehicle that left the scene of the crime, being a Joseph Saylors (age 30) of Lead Hill, Boone County, Arkansas. Officers from Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Arkansas State Police and Arkansas Game and Fish then responded to Saylor’s address in Lead Hill, where he refused to come out, armed with several firearms. Saylors fired several rounds once the house was surrounded.
After several hours, officers from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and Harrison Police Department’s SWAT teams took measures to arrest Saylors by introducing a “flash bang” and tear gas into the residence. Saylors then came out on the front porch, where he was stunned by a nonlethal weapon and restrained.
Saylors was then checked out by EMT’s from the North Arkansas Regional Medical Center and released to the custody of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Saylors was arrested for Murder in the First Degree with a $100,000.00, set by Judge Gordon Webb. The incident is still under investigation by the Arkansas State Police and Marion County Sheriff’s Department, with additional charges possibly pending by both Boone County Sheriff’s Office and Marion County.
The Boone County Sheriff, Mike Moore, oversaw the arrest in Lead Hill. His department and several other agencies made the arrest at approximately 2:15 AM. The Marion County Sheriff’s Department would like to thank all assisting agencies for bringing a quick resolution.
